Senior Scientist

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Scientist and/or Team Leader with experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry to take the lead in planning, conducting, optimizing, and evaluating primarily nucleic acid-based experiments as part of internal technology and RNA-based diagnostic test development.

In this multifaceted role, you will be a thought leader and may manage a small team that will help advance our pipeline of novel nucleic acid detection technologies, solve technical obstacles, test different concepts in the laboratory, plan oligonucleotide manufacturing and processing, read scientific papers, and generate new ideas in collaboration with our innovative R&D team.

The position be based at the headquarters in Bratislava, Slovakia located at the modern Comenius University Science Park.


  • Systematically planning, evaluating, and optimizing molecular biology experiments.
  • Performing some molecular wet-lab work.
  • Alternatively, performing synthesis, handling, processing and analyzing of prepared oligonucleotides.Management and mentoring of a small team of research associates.
  • Generating new concepts and ideas in collaboration with the team.
  • Documenting experimental work, analyzing data, organizing and presenting results.
  • Preparing written methods, SOPs, and IFUs.
  • Presenting research findings via manuscripts, conferences, and to potential partners.
  • Communicating with vendors, collaborators, and other stakeholders.
  • Helping to set the company’s strategic direction in terms of innovative technologies and their use in cancer diagnostics.
  • Staying ahead of the curve with recent developments in the field of nucleic acid detection techniques and their application in clinical diagnostics.


  • PhD in life sciences field is preferred.
  • Team Leader candidates with postdoc or industry experience are preferred.
  • Experience training, mentoring, and supervising personnel.
  • Demonstration of goal-oriented, hands-on, and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Experience in one or more of the following is an advantage:some text
    • Biochemical / molecular assay design and troubleshooting.
    • NGS library preparation and sequencing
    • RNA-FISH or immunofluorescence
    • Microscopy and fluorescence image processing/analysis.
    • Digital pathology or computational pathology.
    • Bioinformatics or knowledge of NGS bioinformatic workflows.
    • Machine learning/AI pipelines
    • Programming, especially pertaining to data analysis and visualization (e.g. in Python, R, MATLAB).
    • Solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis, oligonucleotide processing.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential.
  • Strong planning, analytical and systematic troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (English is our working language, level C1 or higher proficiency is preferred).
